Vertical gardens are becoming more and more important in bioconstruction, as an ecological trend with great success and acceptance in architecture and design, and furthermore the benefits that they bring in favour of the environment are already widely known.
Which are the systems that work?
Paisajismo Urbano is the pioneering Spanish company which has been working with this type of system since 2007 and the results of its projects are excellet, something which is guaranteed in writing.
Before investing in a vertical garden it is necessary to study the different systems that already exist.
Paisajismo Urbano has spent a lot of time working with vertical gardening systems and knows all the variations in great detail. Those that are most commonly used at the moment are systems of modular panels, the sphagnum moss system, Patrick Blanc patent and their own system ofvertical ecosystems.
With the first system of modular panels we have not yet seen that they are really healthy or brightly coloured, due to the fact that the substrate of wool and rock does not allow the chemical conditions needed for irrigation. This means that this type of system is almost always mono-specific, and one species doesn't adapt well to all parts of the wall and to the physico-chemical gradients that it finds within it.
The second system is appealing becasuse of its price, but it doesn't work, and is thus counterproductive to the future of vertical gardens due to the bad publicity that it is creating by being excessively basic. Few species adapt well to the the acid conditions of the substrate, rapidly being taken over by fungus due to there not being any chemical control in the irrigation system.
In this case it is advisable to ask installers for photgraphs of their works one or two years after their completion and we notice that they don't have any.
Finally there's Patrick Blanc's system, which is very similar to ours with reference to the substrate, which is the lightest on the market, weighing a maximum of just 35kgm2.
Paisajismo Urbano, departing from this excellent system, and from the basic principals of species selection, started to improve in the development of a sophisticated irrigation system which completely controls all of the chemical conditions and electronically controls all possible faults that could occur in the system. To all these improvements they added multiple control probes and a GSM advisor in order to be able to guarantee, in writing, that only Paisajismo Urbano can assure the complete success of the system without the need for replacements. All of this is subject to their international patent.
The biological concepts that the long and healthy life of a plant does not start in that plant but in the the ground in which it grows, and how it symbioses with fungi, bacteria and other plants are the concepts applied by Paisajismo Urbano to its walls.
